News letter December 2006
End of Term
We have come to the end of another very busy term and I am sure that all pupils and staff are looking forward to a well deserved holiday.
We will be closing school on Friday, December 15 and pupils will be dismissed at lunch time. The school will reopen on Wednesday, January 3.
Eid
May I wish you all Eid Mubarak on the Eid day and hope that you have a most enjoyable day with your families.
I have consulted with a number of Muslim colleagues and I am assured that Eid falls in the school holidays this year so we will have no need to close school in order for pupils and staff to fulfil their religious obligations.
Spring Half Term
I would also like to bring to your attention the dates of the Half Term holiday.
Pupils will be on holiday from Monday, February 12 to Friday, February 16 inclusive.
Staff Training Afternoon
Could I inform parents/carers that we will be closing school at lunch time on Monday January 29 for a staff training afternoon.
Year 11
Y11 pupils have been busy completing their mock examinations during the last few days and they will be receiving the results of these examinations when they return after the holidays.
I need to remind all parents that the next term is a very important one. It will not be long before the external examinations begin in May and all Year 11 pupils should be focused on achieving their best.
There are a number of vocational examinations scheduled in the New Year as follows :
Tuesday, January 16 Health and Social Care
Thursday, January 18 ICT
Friday, January 19 Science
Pupils involved in these examinations should use the holidays to revise.
Year 9
The National Curriculum tests are scheduled for May, 2007 and as part of our preparations for these test pupils will sit a practice test in school on the following date.
Wednesday, January 17 10.00 English
Wednesday, January 17 1.15 Mathematics
Wednesday, January 17 2.15 Science
Review Day
I would like to give you advance notice that our annual Review Day will be held on Wednesday, February 7. After the holidays, all parents will be given an appointment time so that you can talk to your child’s form tutor about the progress your son/daughter has made and what they need to do to improve.
Attendance
The figures for the Autumn Term currently stand at 92.3% (Sept 4 – Dec 11 inc.) and I hope that we will be able to improve on that figure during the rest of the year. Attendance at school is extremely important if children are going to be able to reach their potential.
Every child should be aiming for 100% attendance.
Staffing
I am sure that many of you would want to join me in wishing Mrs Crossley a long and happy retirement.
Mrs Crossley has been working as a classroom support assistant in our Learning Support Centre for the last six years.
She will be replaced by Mrs Baldwin whilst Mrs Jenner will be joining us as a classroom support assistant in the Special Needs Department.
