Grange and Bluecoat

Mrs Mc Manus - Holocaust Memorial Day
Holocaust Memorial Day is a specific day to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution, and schools are asked to take part in the day to remember the victims as an act of remembrance.
Grange and Bluecoat school worked together to produce a multimedia piece of art work that reflected the Holocaust Day 2006 Theme -
'One person can make a difference'
The Final outcome was a animated slide show of graphical work produced , That was displayed at the queen Elizabeth hall.
The scale and actions of the Holocaust and the Nazi persecution of
groups and individuals over a number of years provides an insight into many aspects
of human behaviour. Discussion about the ‘how’s’ and ‘why’s’ allows many complex
and emotive issues to be raised and discussed, issues that still affect us today. The
human stories from that period help to reduce the scale to an understandable story
and provide young people with an insight into the minds and experiences of those
who suffered, stood by, took part and spoke out.
Each year for Holocaust Memorial Day a theme is suggested that will help to explore different aspects of that terrible period and help to explore the contemporary relevance that it has. This year’s theme is ‘One Person Can Make a Difference’. That theme explores the role of those individuals who in times of conflict, particularly genocide stand apart from those around them and try to assist those who are suffering or being persecuted.
