My desert plant
Siddeka Chowdhury - Rose Thorn
Here is a plant which can survive in the desert, I have named it ‘rose thorn’ because, simply, it is a rose with lots of thorns, which is very obvious. This plant can die very quickly because it needs to grow when it rains. It has a blood red, velvety flower to attract insects for pollination. The reason why the leaves are waxy is because to help the plant store water for dry spells, which is almost every day. The water is stored in the hidden stem, which is surrounded by the waxy, long green leaves. The roots are long and hairy which have to spread long ways to get at any rain there is to find. Unfortunately the flower can live for a short cycle of time because it needs to grow and blossom quickly after the rain, before it dies.
