The Grange School History Department is an ambitious, forward thinking and creative department. The team comprises of three history specialists and is ably supported by a variety of other highly experienced teachers.

As a department, we are always looking at developing our teaching and learning styles to allow both excitement and progression at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. As a department, we embrace the opportunities that are being opened up by the revision of the National Curriculum.

Key Stage 3 (Year 7 to 9)

  • What is History?

  • The Roman Empire and Roman Britain.

  • Medieval Realms 1066-1500

  • The Making of the United Kingdom 1500-1750

  • The British Empire; Expansion and Resistance

  • Black Peoples of the Americas; Slavery, Reform and Resistance

  • The Holocaust; Persecution, Resistance and Liberation

  • The Causes of World War I

  • World War I; Trench Warfare and Lost Youth

  • The Causes of World War II; Hitler, the Nazis and the failure of Peace

  • World War II: The Fight for Freedom.


Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
 

At Key Stage 4 pupils follow either the AQA Syllabus B Modern World GCSE course or the Entry Level Course that runs alongside this GCSE. The pupils’ studies are divided into two areas, each with its own final examination.
