Welcome to the Music Department

Decks for schools

During the last two years Grange
School has hosted the team from
the decks 4 schools project .
Students have been meeting in
the Music Room after
School on Mondays until 5.30 P.M.
to learn D.J. and Rapping skills,
break dancing and street dancing.

The project, which has been very
popular with both boys and girls
has led to the discovery of some
amazing talent and first-rate
performances have been given
to enthusiastic audiences at
Speech Night in the Grange Arts
Centre and on other occasions.

Mr. Marsh and the team say that
these Monday evenings at Grange
will always be unforgettable and
Grange now has its own decks
installed in the Music Room.

COLD-WEST RECORDS

Grange School has launched its own record label, Coldwest Records!

Earlier this Term, singers, dancers, rappers and D.J.s were invited to audition and those selected will be visiting the recording studios in Manchester shortly to record their performances. The first C.D. to be produced should be available towards the end of the Summer Term and will be enhanced so as to be able to include video clips of dancing.

All the artwork for the C.D. cover and publicity will be produced in house at Grange School. Students will be closely involved in the marketing of the record and this will provide a good link with Enterprise in School.

In addition, a website for the label is to be set up

TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS IN NEW C.D. RECORDING PROJECT

Beever Primary School recently contacted Mr. Marsh, Head of Music at Grange School to enlist his help in producing a top-quality C.D. recording of some of their youngsters singing their times tables. Mr. Marsh realised that this would be a fantastic opportunity for his Year 10 G.C.S.E. Music Technology students and he immediately booked the state of the art recording studio at Oldham City Learning Centre to make the recording.

Mr. Marsh is no stranger to Beever Primary School as he recently spent two years as their Music Teacher as part of the Government-funded Central Oldham Federation.

The youngsters from Beever and the students from Grange spent a whole morning in the recording studio under the supervision of Mr. Marsh and Mr. Reid, Music Technology Teaching Assistant at the C.L.C. The recording was made using the Apple Mac software Pro Tools which is widely used professionally in the Music Industry.

The artwork for the C.D. cover and poster is being prepared by Mrs Mc manus & Mr Lancasters yr 7 pupils at grange school. The C.D. should be available shortly and the idea is that it will be a useful tool for parents to support their youngsters at home with their numeracy.

YPXL YOUNG PEOPLE EXCEL

Grange School was very well-represented in the 2007 Oldham YPXL event held at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on Friday, 9 th February.

This highly prestigious annual event in a superb venue is patronised by the Lord Mayor of Oldham and is designed to showcase the performing arts talents of young people at Secondary Schools in Oldham. Only the best are selected to take part after highly competitive auditions.

Grange School ’s fast growing reputation in the field of Performing Arts was proved by Year 10 Rappers Fazrul Hussain and Raju Miah’s song Stand up Westwood! which has been a showstopper at a number of events around the town in recent months.

Also taking part were Year 10 street dancers Rujina Begum and Stacey Deane – easily the top dancing of the whole evening.
